Solo seis meses después del final de los Juegos Paralímpicos, las instalaciones olímpicas de Río de Janeiro están, en su mayoría, abandonadas. Ante el elevado coste del mantener el Parque Olímpico (unos 5 millones de euros al año), el Ayuntamiento de la ciudad carioca cedió su gestión al Gobierno federal.
