“Quise enseñar las cosas que había que mejorar. Y quise mostrar las cosas que había que celebrar”. Así explicaba el fotógrafo estadounidense Lewis Hine (1874-1940) su forma de mostrar esperanza en las fotografías documentales que le dieron a conocer: las duras condiciones de los inmigrantes, el trabajo infantil, los obreros en las fábricas. Una dualidad manifiesta entre las dificultades económicas y la esperanza de un futuro mejor que puede disfrutarse desde este 4 de octubre hasta el 19 de enero de 2014 en el Centro Internacional de Fotografía (IPC, por sus siglas en inglés) de Nueva York. Instantáneas para denunciar las injusticias sociales de los años duros de comienzos del siglo XX, de la Gran Recesión y de la posterior recuperación con el New Deal.
